Aromatherapy

Throughout history aromatic plants have been used in the pursuit of happiness and health. Early man would have burned aromatic plants, finding that some were good to eat, whilst others made them feel good. The Ancient Egyptians used fragrances widely for cosmetic purposes, medicinally and for massage. The Romans used oils to scent their hair, bodies, clothes, beds and even their military flags. During the plagues of Europe, people carried pomanders or bouquets of herbs with them to ward off infection.

By the 20th century essential oils were still being used in modern medicine. During the two World Wars essential oils were used to treat severe burns and battle injuries. Today essential oils are still used in the burns unit at East Grinstead hospital.

The term Aromatherapy is generally used to describe a specific form of massage using pressure points and involving the application of a specific blend of essential oils to the body to be absorbed through the skin. Each treatment is individually tailored to meet the needs of the client. It can relieve muscular aches and pains, and help a whole range of conditions such as arthritis, rheumatism, PMT and painful periods, depression and anxiety, as well as stress related conditions such as IBS. It stimulates lymphatic drainage and so boosts the immune system and encourages balancing of the body’s energies and total relaxation of mind, body and spirit.

A total relaxing treatment for face and body using essential oils. Aromatherapy can also be given without massage in the form of inhalations, compresses, creams, lotions and bath oils. I have many aromatherapy products available to purchase, please contact me for details.
